Free Smoke Alarms for Summit County Residents
Posted on 05/19/2021
Summit county residents can receive free smoke alarms thanks to a partnership through the county, the American Red Cross, and the Akron Fire Department.
If your home does not have working smoke alarms or if they are older than 10 years, they should be replaced.
Join the American Red Cross for Sound the Alarm, a home fire safety and smoke alarm installation event that will help save lives. Smoke alarms are installed by trained Red Cross volunteers and local firefighters at no cost to residents.
Why do I need smoke alarms? On average, seven people die every day from a home fire.
-Smoke alarms cut the risk of death from a fire in half
-Fire experts agree that you have as little as two minutes to escape a burning home before it's too late to get out.
-every eight minutes, the Red Cross responds to a disaster - and the vast majority of these are home fires.
-Three of every five home fire deaths happen in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms
